EasyAn Origami Tutor design31 stepsEight 4 × 4 in squares, two 3 × 3 in squares and a small square · 11 paper pieces

A Christmas wreath of eight green bars hooked into a ring, with a red bow on top. The bow is two triangular loops and a small knot, each folded from its own square.

You need
Eight 4 × 4 in squares of green paper, two 3 × 3 in squares and a 1½ in square of red paper, and a little glue for the bow.
Start
Take eight green squares of the same size, four dark and four light, for the ring. For the bow, take two red squares three quarters as wide as the green ones and one small dark red square. Set the green squares in two columns of four, dark on the left and light on the right.
Tips
  • Fold both loops the same way so the bow is even.
  • Crease each fold sharply so every bar keeps its edge.
  • Hook each corner shut and press it flat before the next.

Steps 1–7

  1. 1

Fold the left squares in half

Fold the left edge of each left-hand square over to its right edge, press, and leave each as a bar.

  2. 2

Fold the right squares in half

Fold the right edge of each right-hand square over to its left edge, press, and leave each as a bar.

  3. 3

Fold the left loop's left edge in

Fold the upper left edge to the middle line, so the top corner becomes the point of a kite.

  4. 4

Fold the left loop's right edge in

Fold the upper right edge to the middle line too.

  5. 5

Square off the left loop's end

Fold the bottom corner behind, along the line where the two folded edges end. The loop is now a triangle with a square end.

  6. 6

Fold the right loop's left edge in

Fold the upper left edge to the middle line, so the top corner becomes the point of a kite.

  7. 7

Fold the right loop's right edge in

Fold the upper right edge to the middle line too.

Steps 8–14

  1. 8

Square off the right loop's end

Fold the bottom corner behind, along the line where the two folded edges end. The loop is now a triangle with a square end.

  2. 9

Fold the knot's top corner behind

Fold one corner of the small square behind, a little way in.

  3. 10

Fold the knot's right corner behind

Fold the next corner behind the same way.

  4. 11

Fold the knot's bottom corner behind

Fold the next corner behind the same way.

  5. 12

Fold the knot's left corner behind

Fold the next corner behind the same way.

  6. 13

    Lay down the first unit

Lay the first bar at the top of the ring.

  7. 14

Lay unit 2 under unit 1

Slide unit 2 under the end of unit 1 so the two bars cross at a corner of the ring.

Steps 15–21

  1. 15

Lay unit 3 under unit 2

Slide unit 3 under the end of unit 2 so the two bars cross at a corner of the ring.

  2. 16

Lay unit 4 under unit 3

Slide unit 4 under the end of unit 3 so the two bars cross at a corner of the ring.

  3. 17

Lay unit 5 under unit 4

Slide unit 5 under the end of unit 4 so the two bars cross at a corner of the ring.

  4. 18

Lay unit 6 under unit 5

Slide unit 6 under the end of unit 5 so the two bars cross at a corner of the ring.

  5. 19

Lay unit 7 under unit 6

Slide unit 7 under the end of unit 6 so the two bars cross at a corner of the ring.

  6. 20

Lay unit 8 under unit 7

Slide unit 8 under the end of unit 7 so the two bars cross at a corner of the ring.

  7. 21

Hook the end of unit 1

Fold the pointed end of unit 1 back behind unit 2. The next unit now lies between two layers.

Steps 22–28

  1. 22

Hook the end of unit 2

Fold the pointed end of unit 2 back behind unit 3. The next unit now lies between two layers.

  2. 23

Hook the end of unit 3

Fold the pointed end of unit 3 back behind unit 4. The next unit now lies between two layers.

  3. 24

Hook the end of unit 4

Fold the pointed end of unit 4 back behind unit 5. The next unit now lies between two layers.

  4. 25

Hook the end of unit 5

Fold the pointed end of unit 5 back behind unit 6. The next unit now lies between two layers.

  5. 26

Hook the end of unit 6

Fold the pointed end of unit 6 back behind unit 7. The next unit now lies between two layers.

  6. 27

Hook the end of unit 7

Fold the pointed end of unit 7 back behind unit 8. The next unit now lies between two layers.

  7. 28

Hook the other end of unit 1

Fold the pointed start of unit 1 back behind unit 8. Now the last unit is held too.
