How to make a quilling S-scroll
Quilling S-Scroll: try all 3 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
Roll one end of half a quilling strip one way and the other end the other way: the S scroll for borders, swirls and flourishes.
- You need
- A 3 mm × 30 cm quilling strip, scissors and a slotted quilling tool. No glue is needed.
- Start
- Begin with one quilling strip, 3 mm wide and 30 cm long, lying flat with its long edges at the top and bottom.
- Tips
- Turn the strip over before rolling the second end, so that you roll toward yourself both times.
- Roll both ends the same number of turns for an even S, or one end further for a swirl.
Your model is ready
Your S scroll is done. Glue it to a card along its lower edge, or join several end to end for a border. Turn the S scroll to see its two coils turning opposite ways.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Cut the strip in half
Cut straight across the strip 15 cm from its left end. Keep the left half and set the other aside for another shape.
- 2
Roll the left end
Slide the left end into the quilling tool and roll it toward the middle until the coil is about 8 mm from it. Slide the tool out and let the coil open a little.
- 3
Roll the right end the other way
Roll the right end toward the middle too, but on the other side of the strip, so the two coils turn opposite ways and the strip makes an S.

Finish
Your S scroll is done. Glue it to a card along its lower edge, or join several end to end for a border. Turn the S scroll to see its two coils turning opposite ways.
