How to make a quilling heart: open V-scroll
Quilling Heart (Open V Scroll): try all 4 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
Fold half a quilling strip in the middle and roll both ends in toward the fold: an open heart for cards, borders and Valentine designs.
- You need
- A 3 mm × 30 cm quilling strip, scissors and a slotted quilling tool. No glue is needed.
- Start
- Begin with one quilling strip, 3 mm wide and 30 cm long, lying flat with its long edges at the top and bottom.
- Tips
- Roll both ends the same number of turns so the two halves of the heart match.
- Roll the ends on the inside of the fold; rolled on the outside, the same strip makes a V scroll with its coils turned out.
Your model is ready
Your open heart is done. Lay it flat with the point down, and glue it to a card along its lower edge. Turn the heart to see the two coils curled in at the top.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Cut the strip in half
Cut straight across the strip 15 cm from its left end. Keep the left half and set the other aside for another shape.
- 2
Fold the strip in half
Fold the strip in half end to end and pinch the fold sharp. Open it again to a wide V.
- 3
Roll the left end in
Slide the left end into the quilling tool and roll it toward the fold, on the inside of the V, until the coil is about 15 mm from the fold. Slide the tool out and let the coil open a little.
- 4
Roll the right end in
Roll the right end the same way, toward the fold on the inside of the V, to the same size as the left coil.
