80–270 gsmFolds: Depends on weightBest for: Decorated cards and boxes
Scrapbook paper is a decorative use category. A pattern may be printed on one or both faces of a paper sheet, while solid or textured cardstock provides a heavier base.
- Typical weight
- 80–270 gsm
- US lb · calculated at the named basis
- 54.1–182.4 lb text equivalent (25 × 38 in, 500 sheets)
Weights to look for
Decorative ranges include roughly 80–270 gsm papers and boards. At the heavier end, compare the cover-weight equivalents on the weight page rather than treating every scrapbook sheet as text paper.
Folding, creasing, cutting and gluing
- Fold
- Thin printed paper works for simple folds. Check which side of a double-sided pattern will show before starting.
- Crease
- Score heavy stock. A printed coating or pale core can show along a sharp fold.
- Cut
- A trimmer helps keep a pattern square; scissors or a knife suit shaped pieces. Reserve small scraps for tags.
- Glue
- Use dry adhesive for broad layers and small dots of liquid glue for tabs. This reduces ripples across a printed face.
What to make
Use heavier stock for the box net or card decorations; thin decorative sheets can make a colourful corner bookmark.
Common sheet and pack sizes
12 × 12 inches is a common scrapbook format. Decorative papers also come as A4 sheets and larger craft packs.
