Crepe Paper Tulip: try all 2 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
Cut six round petals along one edge of a crepe strip, stretch each petal across its middle into a cup, and wind the strip twice round a stem so the petals close into a tulip.
- You need
- Crepe paper, scissors, a pencil or short stick for the stem, and a little glue or tape to hold the band.
- Start
- Cut a 22.2 × 9.3 cm strip of crepe paper so the grain runs straight up from its long bottom edge to its top.
Your model is ready
Glue or tape the end of the band, pinch it round the stem, and shape each petal so the tulip closes evenly. Turn the tulip to see the outer petals cupped round the inner ones, their tips turned in.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Cut the petals
Leave a band 2 cm deep along the bottom of the strip. Above it, cut three round petals, then leave a short stretch of bare band, then cut three wider petals. Cut between the petals right down to the band.
- 2
Stretch the petals and wind the tulip
Hold each petal with both thumbs at its middle and pull gently sideways so the crepe stretches into a cup. Then wind the band twice round the stem, the three narrow petals first, so the wider petals close round them and their tops turn in.

Finish
Glue or tape the end of the band, pinch it round the stem, and shape each petal so the tulip closes evenly. Turn the tulip to see the outer petals cupped round the inner ones, their tips turned in.
