A4 has a width-to-height ratio of about 1:1.414; Letter is about 1:1.294. A4 has about 3.7% more area.
Printing one size on the other
Choose the actual paper size in the printer settings. “Fit to page” shrinks the document to the printable area. Printing at 100% can cut off part of an A4 page on Letter, or the sides of a Letter page on A4.
For a craft template, use the stated paper size and check its printed scale before cutting.
Cut a square for origami
The largest square from a flat rectangle this size is 210 × 210 mm (8.2677 × 8.2677 in). Fold one short edge against a long edge so their corners meet. Crease the diagonal, cut off the extra 87 mm strip, then open the triangle.
