How to make a quilling teardrop
Quilling Teardrop: try all 4 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
Roll one paper strip into a loose coil and pinch a point to make a petal shape.
- You need
- A quilling strip, slotted quilling tool, craft glue and a toothpick for applying glue.
- Start
- Start with a 3 mm wide, 30 cm long strip and a slotted quilling tool. The rolling diagrams show the coil from above.
- Tips
- Use a tiny dab of glue at the free end. Too much can fill the gaps between the loops.
- Hold the coil flat as you pinch so its layers stay at the same height.
Your teardrop is ready
Let the glue set. Use the shape as a petal or leaf on a card, or repeat it to build a larger design.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Roll a tight coil
Slide the strip end into the tool slot. Turn the tool while keeping the strip edges aligned until the whole strip is rolled.
- 2
Let the coil relax
Slide the coil off the tool and set it on a flat surface. Let it expand into a loose circle before gluing.
- 3
Secure the free end
Use a toothpick to put a tiny dab of glue on the loose end. Press it against the outer loop until it holds.
- 4
Pinch one point
Hold one edge between your thumb and forefinger. Pinch that edge into a point, leaving the opposite end rounded.

Finish
Let the glue set. Use the shape as a petal or leaf on a card, or repeat it to build a larger design.
