Cut twelve pointed petals round a small base in one piece. Stand every other petal up as the inner ring and let the rest open low, to make a layered lotus.
- You need
- Light card or thick paper, a pencil, scissors and a round pencil for curling.
- Start
- Begin with a 15 × 15 cm square of pink or white card or thick paper, colored on both sides.
Your model is ready
Your lotus is open. Keep the six inner petals cupped around the middle and the six outer petals spread below them.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Cut out the lotus
Draw a small twelve-sided base in the middle of the square and a long pointed petal on each of its sides. Cut in from the top edge to the tip of the top petal, then all the way round the outline. Cut right down to the base between the petals, but never into it.
- 2
Stand up the inner ring
Hold the base still. Lift every other petal steeply at its base and ease its point out a little: these make the inner ring. Lift the petals between them only a little, so they lie low and open, and curl their points back over a pencil.
- 3
Cup the two petal rings
Lift the outer petals into a low bowl. Keep the inner petals higher and curve their upper parts gently toward the middle, keeping the pointed tips apart.
