An Origami Tutor Christmas candle for young children: a tall red candle with a band of white wax, folded from one square in three folds, and a pointed orange flame folded from a small square.
- You need
- One 6 × 6 in square of red paper that is white on the back, one 3 × 3 in square of orange paper, a little glue.
- Start
- Use a big red square for the candle and a small orange square, half as wide, for the flame. Start the candle white side up with an edge at the top, and the flame white side up with a corner pointing up. Paper that is colored on one side only works well.
- Tips
- Line both side edges up exactly on the middle line so the candle is straight.
- Glue two or three candles of different heights on one card.
Your model is ready
Glue the flame in place. Stand the candle against a book, or glue it to a card with a gold paper stand under it. The finished candle, with its orange flame on top.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Fold the left edge to the middle
Fold the left edge over to the vertical middle line. The colored back shows.
- 2
Fold the right edge to the middle
Fold the right edge over to meet it. You have a tall red column with a seam down the middle.
- 3
Fold down the top edge
Fold the top edge down a little way, so a white band of melted wax shows across the top.
- 4
Fold the flame's left edge in
Take the small orange square, a corner pointing up. Fold its upper left edge to the middle line.
- 5
Fold the flame's right edge in
Fold the upper right edge to the middle line too. The flame is a pointed kite.
- 6
Square off the flame
Fold the bottom corner behind, so the flame has a square end to sit on the candle.
- 7
Put the flame on the candle
Set the flame on the top of the candle, its square end just over the top edge.
- ✓
Finish
Glue the flame in place. Stand the candle against a book, or glue it to a card with a gold paper stand under it. The finished candle, with its orange flame on top.
