EasyAn Origami Tutor design12 steps9 cm blossom and 15 cm stem squares · 2 paper pieces

An Origami Tutor tulip in two pieces: a smaller red flower with three upright petal points, and a tall green stem with a long upward leaf. Folded from two squares with simple folds; the stem tucks in behind the flower, and a dab of glue holds it.

You need
One 9 × 9 cm red square, one 15 × 15 cm green square and a little glue.
Start
Use a 9 cm red square and a 15 cm green square. Start both white side up with a corner pointing up, the green square below the red one.
Tips
  • Fold the two petals at the same angle so the flower is even.
  • Press the stem folds hard; a thin stem stays straighter.
  • Press the glued overlap gently until the blossom holds on the stem.

Steps 1–7

  1. 1

Fold the flower square in half

Fold the bottom corner of the red square up to the top corner. You have a triangle with its point at the top.

  2. 2

    Raise the left petal

Fold the left corner up on a slanted line from the middle of the base. Its tip sits beside the central point.

  3. 3

    Raise the right petal

Fold the right corner up the same way. The three points stand beside one another across the top of the flower.

  4. 4

    Blunt the flower's base

Fold the tiny bottom point behind so the blossom has a short, flat base.

  5. 5

Fold the stem's upper left edge in

Fold the upper left edge of the green square to its vertical middle line.

  6. 6

Fold the stem's upper right edge in

Fold the upper right edge to the middle line to match.

  7. 7

Fold the stem's lower left edge in

Fold the lower left edge to the middle line, taking all its layers together.

Steps 8–12

  1. 8

Fold the stem's lower right edge in

Fold the lower right edge to meet it. The paper tapers to a point at both ends.

  2. 9

    Fold the stem lengthwise

Fold the left half over the right along the vertical middle line.

  3. 10

    Branch the leaf upward

Fold the lower point up and to the right on a slanted line halfway down the stem. The long point becomes a leaf beside the upright stalk.

  4. 11

Tuck the stem behind the flower

Slide the top point of the stem up behind the bottom point of the flower, so the flower sits on the stem and hides its tip.

  5. 12

Fix the stem behind the blossom

Put a small dab of glue on the overlapping stem tip behind the blossom and press the layers together.
