Axolotl Paper Craft: try all 3 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
Fold a square in half, cut one joined outline through both layers, then open a symmetric axolotl with three feathery gills on each side, four legs and a long tail.
- You need
- Thin paper, a pencil, a ruler, scissors and a pen for the face.
- Start
- Begin with a 20 cm square of pink paper, colored side up. Keep an edge at the top. Thin paper is easier to cut around the gills.
Draw the axolotl’s eyes
Smooth the centre crease. Draw two round eyes on the head between the feathery gills. The finished paper axolotl, with its head and gills at the top and its tail below.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Fold the square in half
Bring the left edge to the right edge. Match the corners and press the vertical fold. Keep the folded edge on the left.
- 2
Cut the axolotl outline
Start on the folded edge at the top of the head. Cut round the head and out along each of the three feathery gills, with their small side twigs. Cut the front leg with its three toes, then down the side of the body, out along the back leg and its toes, and along the tail to the folded edge at its tip. Keep the half axolotl beside the fold and remove the surrounding paper.
- 3
Open the axolotl
Open the centre fold gently. The head, gills, legs and tail stay joined in one sheet.
