Cut a hummingbird in a feeding profile, with a fine forward bill, rounded head, compact body, raised swept wings and a short forked tail. The whole silhouette stays joined.
- You need
- Thin paper, a pencil, a ruler and scissors.
- Start
- Use an 18 × 20 cm piece of green or blue paper, trimmed from a 20 cm square. Keep it unfolded; the bird is seen from the side.
Your model is ready
Add one tiny pencilled eye on the rounded head if you like. Hang the flat bird from a thread or glue it beside a flower on a card. The hummingbird hovers in profile, long bill forward and swept wings raised behind its head.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Cut the bill, head and lifted wings
Start at the bill's tip on the left edge. Cut along its upper edge, around the rounded head, then out around both long raised wing tips. Follow the back down to the upper tail point on the right edge. Keep the paper below the outline.
- 2
Cut the throat, belly and forked tail
Start just below the bill's tip. Cut along the thin bill, round the throat and belly, then out around the lower tail point and into its short fork. End at the right edge just below the first cut. Keep the bird above the outline.
