How to make a paper spider cutout
Paper Spider Cutout: try all 3 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
Fold a square in half, cut one joined outline through both layers, then open a symmetric spider with a round body and eight bent legs.
- You need
- Thin paper, a pencil, a ruler and scissors.
- Start
- Begin with a 15 cm square of black or dark paper. Keep an edge at the top. Thin paper is easier to cut around the legs.
Your model is ready
Smooth the centre crease and bend each leg a little at its knee. Draw two eyes on the head with a white pencil if you like. Hang the flat spider on a window or a card. The finished paper spider, with four legs on each side.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Fold the square in half
Bring the left edge to the right edge. Match the corners and press the vertical fold. Keep the folded edge on the left.
- 2
Cut the spider outline
Start on the folded edge at the top of the head. Cut around the head, then out and back along each of the four legs in turn, taking care at the sharp knees, and finish around the round abdomen on the folded edge below. Keep the body beside the fold and remove the surrounding paper.
- 3
Open the spider
Open the centre fold gently. The head, abdomen and all eight legs stay joined in one sheet.
