An original Origami Tutor daffodil bloom. Six broad pointed petals stay joined around a small hexagon. A second cut blank opens into a short twelve-sided trumpet with a flared pointed rim. Glue its flat base to the petal centre to join the flower.
- You need
- Two squares of heavy crepe paper or lightweight card, a pencil, ruler, scissors, a round pencil for shaping and a little glue.
- Start
- Begin with a 15 cm square of yellow heavy crepe paper and a 6 cm square of deeper yellow or orange heavy crepe paper, both colored on both sides. Lightweight card also works. Keep the grain parallel to an edge; shape with gentle bends without pulling the paper longer.
Your model is ready
Six broad petals surround the short flared trumpet. Let the joined base dry before lifting the daffodil bloom.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Cut the six-petal bloom
Draw a small hexagon at the centre of the yellow square. Add six pointed oval petals, one on each side, each widening gently before narrowing to its tip. Cut in from the top edge and follow the whole outline, keeping all six petals joined to the middle.
- 2
Cut the trumpet blank
In the smaller square, draw a twelve-sided centre 16.5 mm across. Add twelve matching tapered panels around it, each 18 mm tall and widening from 4.3 to 8.2 mm, with a small triangular point on its outer edge. Cut around the outline, keeping every panel joined to the centre.
- 3
Spread the six petals
Hold the middle still. Lift each petal slightly at its base, then ease its outer half over a pencil so its point turns gently outward. Keep the six petals broad and evenly spaced.
- 4
Open the short trumpet
Hold the small centre flat and lift all twelve tapered panels together until their side edges meet. Turn the little triangular rim points outward. Leave the flared mouth open.
- 5
Centre the trumpet
Bring the trumpet above the six-petal bloom. Lower its flat base onto the front of the yellow middle, keeping the open mouth facing up.
- 6
Glue the trumpet to the petals
Put a small dab of glue between the two overlapping flat centres and press them together. Keep glue away from the open trumpet walls and petals.
- ✓
Finish
Six broad petals surround the short flared trumpet. Let the joined base dry before lifting the daffodil bloom.
