- You need
- Cream and yellow paper, pencil, ruler, scissors, a thin skewer and paper glue.
- Start
- Use a 15 cm cream or white square, a matching 3 × 15 mm joining tab, and a 3 × 4.5 cm strip of yellow paper. Use the same colour on both sides of each piece.
Your model is ready
Let the flower dry. Keep its pointed lip behind the yellow centre and the low mouth open at the front. Look into the calla lily's open front, with its yellow centre below the high cream point.
Step-by-step diagrams
Steps 1–7
- 1
Crease the joining tab
Fold the tiny cream tab in half down its length and open it again.
- 2
Cut the pointed spathe
Draw the narrow fan with sixteen rays. Keep the two outside rays short and raise the curved rim to a high point halfway round. Cut in to the apex and around the whole fan.
- 3
Wrap the spathe
Curve the fan around a pencil until its two short edges meet. Keep the pointed lip high at the back and the low opening at the front.
- 4
Bend the seam tab
Bend the tab lightly on its crease to fit the angle between the two edges of the spathe.
- 5
Bridge the seam
Set the tab inside the low front seam, with half on each edge panel.
- 6
Glue the first edge
Glue one half of the tab inside the first edge.
- 7
Join the second edge
Glue the other half inside the other edge. Hold the seam shut until the glue takes.
Steps 8–12
- 8
Roll the yellow centre
Roll the yellow strip tightly around a thin skewer along its 4.5 cm length. Slide the skewer out.
- 9
Press the yellow edge down
Press the end of the strip onto the turn beneath so the yellow tube stays narrow.
- 10
Glue the yellow centre
Glue the edge down and let the narrow yellow tube dry.
- 11
Set the spadix inside
Lower the yellow centre into the spathe. Its lower end rests against the inside back wall, with the yellow tip showing above the low front lip.
- 12
Attach the yellow centre
Glue the lower part of the yellow tube to the cream wall. Leave the upper part clear of the paper.
- ✓
Finish
Let the flower dry. Keep its pointed lip behind the yellow centre and the low mouth open at the front. Look into the calla lily's open front, with its yellow centre below the high cream point.
