An Origami Tutor elephant face with a broad forehead, two wide ears and one long trunk with a small folded tip. Fold one square without cuts, then draw the eyes.
- You need
- One square of thin origami paper, white on one side, and a pen for the eyes. No scissors or glue.
- Start
- Start white side up, with one corner pointing up. Gray paper suits an elephant; the smooth colored side will face forward.
- Tips
- Match the two ear folds so the face is even.
- Fold only the very end of the trunk up, leaving its long taper visible.
Your model is ready
Press the elephant face flat. Draw two round eyes above the long trunk, one on each side of the middle crease. The broad ears stay spread beside the head.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Crease the middle
Bring the left corner to the right corner, press the middle, and open.
- 2
Make the triangle
Bring the top corner down to the bottom corner.
- 3
Fold the left edge inward
Bring the sloping edge to the upright middle line. Keep the bottom point sharp: this will be the trunk.
- 4
Fold the right edge inward
Bring the sloping edge to the upright middle line. Keep the bottom point sharp: this will be the trunk.
- 5
Spread the left ear
Fold the upper left point out diagonally. The crease runs from the shoulder down to the middle, leaving a broad ear beside the trunk.
- 6
Spread the right ear
Fold the upper right point out diagonally. The crease runs from the shoulder down to the middle, leaving a broad ear beside the trunk.
- 7
Turn the face over
Turn the model over. The smooth gray face is now in front and one long trunk hangs down the middle.
- 8
Blunt the left ear
Fold the outer left tip behind, leaving a broad ear with a short straight side.
- 9
Blunt the right ear
Fold the outer right tip behind, leaving a broad ear with a short straight side.
- 10
Fold the trunk tip up
Turn up only the tiny lower end of the trunk, about a finger's width from its point. Leave the rest of the trunk long and tapered.
