An Origami Tutor flatfish with a broad flat body, blunt snout, small forked tail and two eyes on one face. Our own flounder design, folded from one square without cuts or glue.
- You need
- One square of two-color origami paper and a pen for the eyes. No glue or scissors.
- Start
- Start white side up with a corner pointing up. The colored side will become the upper face of the flounder.
- Tips
- Keep the two tail points at matching angles.
- Fold only the small body corners behind; leave the broad middle flat.
Your model is ready
Draw both eyes near the snout on the same upper face. Press the flounder flat, with its small forked tail spread behind it.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Fold the square in half
Bring the right corner across to the left corner. Keep the long edge on the right.
- 2
Bring the top corner down
Fold the top corner down to the left point.
- 3
Bring the bottom corner up
Fold the bottom corner up to the same point. You now have a small diamond.
- 4
Spread the upper tail point
Fold the tip of the upper flap back to the right along the slanted line. Let its point extend past the back of the body.
- 5
Spread the lower tail point
Fold the lower flap back to the right to match. The two points make the forked tail.
- 6
Show the upper face
Turn the fish over from top to bottom, keeping its snout to the left.
- 7
Round the top of the body
Fold the small top corner behind along the short level line. Leave the tail spread.
- 8
Round the bottom of the body
Fold the lower corner behind by the same amount, leaving the body broad and flat.
- 9
Blunt the snout
Fold the tiny left point behind to make the short snout.

Finish
Draw both eyes near the snout on the same upper face. Press the flounder flat, with its small forked tail spread behind it.
