An Origami Tutor Valentine card with a heart window: a red cover is folded in half, cut with half a heart along the fold and opened, then glued on the front of a pink folded card, so the heart shows the pink beneath.
- You need
- One 24 × 18 cm sheet of pink paper, one 12 × 18 cm sheet of red paper, a pencil, scissors and glue.
- Start
- Use a 24 × 18 cm sheet of pink paper for the card and a 12 × 18 cm sheet of red paper for the cover, both with their long edges at the top and bottom. Start both sheets with their colored side up.
- Tips
- Draw the half heart lightly in pencil first, so the dip and the point both land exactly on the fold.
- Cut slowly round the lobe; thin paper tears if you pull it.
Your model is ready
Let the glue dry. Open the card and write your message inside; the heart window shows the pink beneath. The finished card, with its heart window in front.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Fold the cover in half
Take the narrow red sheet, red side up. Fold its right edge over to its left edge. The folded edge is the line down the middle of the cover, where the heart will be centred.
- 2
Cut half a heart
Draw half a heart against the folded edge, about 3.6 cm wide and 6.5 cm tall, its point and its dip both on the fold and 5.7 cm of paper left above and below it. Cut along the line from the fold, round the curve and back to the fold, through both layers. Keep the large piece and throw the half heart away.
- 3
Open the cover
Open the fold. A whole heart is cut out of the middle of the cover.
- 4
Fold the card closed
Take the large pink sheet, pink side up. Fold the right half behind the left half. This is the card; its fold is the spine.
- 5
Set the cover on the card
Lay the red cover over the front of the card, edges level, with the heart window in the middle. Glue it down along its edges.
- ✓
Finish
Let the glue dry. Open the card and write your message inside; the heart window shows the pink beneath. The finished card, with its heart window in front.
