Paper Hexagon Box: try all 8 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
A six-sided box from one strip of card: six walls in a row, each with a triangle hanging from its bottom edge. Curl the walls into a ring and fold the triangles in to make the floor.
- You need
- One strip of card, 21 × 7.6 cm, a ruler and pencil, scissors and tape.
- Start
- Use a strip of card, 21 cm long and 7.6 cm tall, white side up. Mark six walls 3.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall across the top. Under each wall, mark an upside-down triangle 3 cm tall with its base on the wall's bottom edge.
- Tips
- Measure the six walls with a ruler so they are exactly the same width.
- Score every crease with a ruler and a dull pencil point before folding.
- A tab of 1 cm on the last wall, taped behind the first, makes a firm join.
Your model is ready
The box stands with a six-sided floor. Tape the last wall to the first along their edge. The finished hexagonal box, open at the top, with six walls and a floor made of six triangles.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Cut round the six triangles
Cut a zigzag along the slanted sides of all six triangles, from the left edge to the right edge, with the points just above the bottom of the card. The thin strip under the points lifts away.
- 2
Crease under the walls
Fold the six triangles up along the line under the walls. Press the crease and open it flat.
- 3
Crease the first corner
Fold the right side of the card back along the first upright line between two walls. Press the crease and open it flat.
- 4
Crease the second corner
Fold the right side of the card back along the second upright line between two walls. Press the crease and open it flat.
- 5
Crease the third corner
Fold the right side of the card back along the third upright line between two walls. Press the crease and open it flat.
- 6
Crease the fourth corner
Fold the right side of the card back along the fourth upright line between two walls. Press the crease and open it flat.
- 7
Crease the fifth corner
Fold the right side of the card back along the fifth upright line between two walls. Press the crease and open it flat.
- 8
Raise the walls and fold in the floor
Curl the six walls into a ring, with the first wall flat on the table. Fold every triangle inward so the six meet at the middle as the floor.
