Fold one book crease, cut two ears and matching scalloped wings through both layers, then open a flat Halloween bat.
- You need
- Thin paper, a pencil, a ruler and scissors.
- Start
- Begin with a 12 cm square of paper, dark side up. Keep an edge at the top.
Your model is ready
Open the centre crease gently so the two wings spread out. Draw two small eyes if you like. Display the bat flat in a window or against a card. The finished paper bat, with its ears above its body and both wings spread.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Fold the square in half
Bring the left edge to the right edge. Match the corners and press the vertical fold. Keep the folded edge on the left.
- 2
Cut the ears and upper wing
Start at the folded edge between the ears. Cut up to the ear tip, down beside it, then out to the wing tip on the open edge. Keep the large part below the cut.
- 3
Trim the lower margin
Cut from the right edge across the lower margin and up to the folded edge at the tail. Remove this broad scrap before making the smaller wing notches.
- 4
Cut below the wing
From the outer wing tip, cut the three pointed scallops down to the lower cut. Keep the central body and the narrow wing above the blade.
- 5
Open silhouette half
Open this crease gently, leaving the earlier folds closed. Keep the uncut joins together.

Finish
Open the centre crease gently so the two wings spread out. Draw two small eyes if you like. Display the bat flat in a window or against a card. The finished paper bat, with its ears above its body and both wings spread.
