Step-by-step diagrams

  1. 1

    Fold the square in half

Bring the bottom edge to the top edge and press the crease. Mark the middle of the folded edge lightly; it is the centre of the snowflake.

  2. 2

    Fold it in half again

Fold the left half over the right half so the centre sits in the bottom left corner of a small square.

  3. 3

    Fold the corner over

Bring the upper left edge down over the bottom edge, so the packet is a narrow wedge with eight layers pointing at the centre.

  4. 4

    Cut the big bubble

Mark a point on the bottom folded edge 30 mm from the centre. Cut a half circle with a radius of 8.5 mm around that point, starting and ending on the folded edge. A coin makes a good guide.

  5. 5

    Cut the outer slanting bubble

Cut a half circle with a radius of 6 mm on the slanting folded edge, 38 mm from the centre.

  6. 6

    Cut the inner slanting bubble

Cut a half circle with a radius of 4.5 mm on the slanting folded edge, 22 mm from the centre.

  7. 7

    Cut the spiky rim

Start on the bottom folded edge 45 mm from the centre. Cut three sharp spikes across the top of the wedge, each tip 11 mm farther out than the valleys between, and end on the slanting folded edge 45 mm from the centre. The corners of the paper fall away.

  8. 8

    Open eighth

Open this crease gently, leaving the earlier folds closed. Keep the uncut joins together.

  9. 9

    Open quarter

Open this crease gently, leaving the earlier folds closed. Keep the uncut joins together.

  10. 10

    Open half

Open this crease gently, leaving the earlier folds closed. Keep the uncut joins together.
