Fold one square into a flat mushroom with a broad coloured cap and a short white stem. Opening two little joined pockets narrows the upper stem while leaving its base flared. Small folds flatten the cap top and stem base. No cutting, glue or drawn details.
- You need
- One 15 cm square of thin two-colour origami paper. No scissors or glue.
- Start
- Begin with one 15 cm square, white side up, with a corner pointing up. Use paper with a coloured face and a white reverse.
- Tips
- Open each little stem pocket before pressing its new sloping crease.
- Keep both sides even so the cap sits level above the stem.

Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Mark the middle
Fold the left corner to the right corner, crease and reopen.
- 2
Mark the other diagonal
Fold the top corner to the bottom corner, crease and reopen. The two guides cross in the middle.
- 3
Fold the right corner inward
Bring the right corner to the crossing of the guides.
- 4
Fold the top corner inward
Fold the top corner to the same middle point.
- 5
Fold the left corner inward
Fold the left corner to meet the other two. Leave the lower corner unfolded.
- 6
Lower the upper half
Fold the straight upper edge down across the horizontal middle guide. Take its folded corners with it, leaving the lower point free.
- 7
Turn over
Turn the model over, keeping its long point downward.
- 8
Fold the right upper corner
Fold the upper-right corner diagonally down to the centre line, level with the bottom of the broad band. Take the corner’s layers together.
- 9
Fold the left upper corner
Fold the upper-left corner down the same way. The two triangular flaps meet along the middle.
- 10
Open the stem pockets and finish the outline
Open the two little folded pockets in turn. Flatten their sloping creases to narrow the top of the stem while leaving its lower sides wide, then fold the small top and bottom points behind.
