A card for Father's Day folded into a shirt: a V neck cut at the top, two white collar flaps folded down and a red tie glued below the neck. An Origami Tutor design with our own measurements.
- You need
- One 20 × 14 cm sheet of coloured paper or thin card, a 4 × 8 cm piece of paper for the tie, scissors, a glue stick and a pen.
- Start
- Begin with a 20 × 14 cm sheet of coloured paper or thin card, white side up, with a long edge at the top. Keep a 4 × 8 cm piece of paper in another colour beside it for the tie, coloured side up.
- Tips
- Cut the neck through both halves at once, so the V lines up.
- Fold both collar flaps by the same amount so the V is even.
Your model is ready
Press the tie flat. Open the card and write your message inside; add a pocket or buttons with a pen if you like. The finished shirt card, closed with its blue front, white collar and red tie facing outward.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Fold the card in half
Fold the left half of the sheet over to the right half and crease the fold firmly. The coloured side is now outside; the fold is the card's spine on the left.
- 2
Cut the neck
Keep the card closed. In the middle of the cover, 2.4 cm in from the top edge, cut straight down from the top edge. Cut through both halves of the card.
- 3
Fold the left collar
Fold the corner beside the cut down and out along a slanted line from the bottom of the cut to a point 2 cm to its left on the top edge. The white inside of the paper shows.
- 4
Fold the right collar
Fold the other corner down in the same way, on the right of the cut. The two white flaps form the collar and leave a V at the neck.
- 5
Fold the tie sheet in half
Fold the tie paper in half from side to side. The fold is the middle of the tie.
- 6
Cut half a tie
Keep the paper folded. Against the fold, cut half a tie: a narrow knot at the top, widening into the blade, and ending in a point at the fold. Keep the part beside the fold.
- 7
Open the tie
Open the paper. You have a whole tie, with its knot at the top.
- 8
Place the tie on the shirt
Set the tie on the cover with its knot just under the bottom of the neck, in the middle.
- 9
Glue the tie
Spread glue on the back of the tie, keeping it off the knot's edges, and press it onto the cover.
- ✓
Finish
Press the tie flat. Open the card and write your message inside; add a pocket or buttons with a pen if you like. The finished shirt card, closed with its blue front, white collar and red tie facing outward.
