How to make an origami heart ring
Origami Heart Ring: try all 17 steps in the 3D player. Turn and replay every move. Print the complete diagram sheet or save it as PDF.
An Origami Tutor ring in two pieces: a narrow folded band closes into a loop, then a small red heart glues to its outside. The band and heart both stay folded while you assemble them.
- You need
- One thin paper rectangle 156 × 66 mm, one 24 mm square of red paper, and a little paper glue.
- Start
- Use a thin 156 × 66 mm rectangle for the band and a 24 mm square of red paper for the heart. Start both white side up, with the band's long edges at the top and bottom.
- Tips
- Thin paper makes the narrow folded band easier to curve.
- Crease the small heart firmly so its lobes stay neat.
- Keep glue away from the inside of the ring and let it dry fully.
Your model is ready
Your ring is closed, with the red folded heart attached to the front. Let both glue joins dry before wearing it.
Step-by-step diagrams
Steps 1–6
- 1
Fold the top edge to the middle
Fold the top long edge down to the middle line of the band and press the crease.
- 2
Fold the bottom edge to the middle
Fold the bottom long edge up to meet it, making a long band half as tall.
- 3
Fold the band in half
Fold the band in half along its length, so the two folded edges meet. The band is now four layers thick.
- 4
Fold in half
Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge. You have a long rectangle.
- 5
Fold up the left half
Fold the left half up along a slanted line from the middle of the bottom edge to a spot a fifth of the way in from the left along the top edge. Its top corner sticks up as a lobe.
- 6
Fold up the right half
Fold the right half up the same way, over the left half. The two corners stand side by side as the heart's lobes.
Steps 7–12
- 7
Round the left lobe
Fold the square tip of the left lobe behind.
- 8
Round the right lobe
Fold the tip of the right lobe behind the same way.
- 9
Narrow the band once more
Put the heart aside. Fold the long band in half again, bringing its top edge to its bottom edge.
- 10
Shorten the band
Fold the band in half end to end. Keep this doubled strip flat and press the fold firmly.
- 11
Lift and turn the heart over
Lift the finished heart and turn it over so its flat back faces up, ready to glue to the band.
- 12
Curve the band
Curve the folded strip into an open loop with small bends across its width. Keep its doubled end still and leave the ends apart.
Steps 13–17
- 13
Close the loop
Bring the ends together to close the ring. Leave the last short panel straight, outside the start of the band.
- 14
Overlap the ends
Bend the last short panel over the first panel. The ends now overlap without opening any of the band's long folds.
- 15
Glue the ring closed
Apply a little paper glue between the overlapping ends. Press them together and let the join set.
- 16
Place the heart on the ring
Set the flat back of the heart against the outside of the band, opposite its join. Keep the heart's point below its two lobes.
- 17
Glue the heart in place
Apply a little paper glue between the heart and band. Hold the back of the heart flat against this panel and let it set.

Finish
Your ring is closed, with the red folded heart attached to the front. Let both glue joins dry before wearing it.
