An Origami Tutor panda face: a broad white face with two short black ears and drawn black eye patches, folded from one square of paper that is black on one side and white on the other.
- You need
- One square of origami paper, black on one side and white on the other, and a black pen for the eye patches. No glue or scissors.
- Start
- Start black side up, with one corner pointing up. The white side makes the face and the black side the ears.
- Tips
- Make both caps the same size and fold both ears at the same angle, so the panda looks straight at you.
- Paper that is black on one side and white on the other works best; any dark color will do.
Your model is ready
Press the folds flat. Draw two big black eye patches with eyes in them, a black nose and a smile on your panda. The finished panda face, with short black ears, a broad white face and its eye patches drawn on.
Step-by-step diagrams
- 1
Make a triangle
Fold the bottom corner up to the top corner.
- 2
Cap the left corner
Open the left corner's two layers a little. Fold its tip back round the outside along a steep slanted line that starts on the bottom edge about 1.3 cm (1/2 in) from the corner, then close the layers. The black inside now covers the tip on both sides.
- 3
Cap the right corner
Open the right corner's two layers a little. Fold its tip back round the outside along a steep slanted line that starts on the bottom edge about 1.3 cm (1/2 in) from the corner, then close the layers. The black inside now covers the tip on both sides.
- 4
Fold the top down
Fold the top point down to make a wide, flat forehead. Fold both layers.
- 5
Raise the left ear
Fold the left corner up along the slanted line, starting at the middle of the bottom edge. Its black tip stands up beside the forehead.
- 6
Raise the right ear
Fold the right corner up the same way to match.
- 7
Shorten the left ear
Fold the little black ear point down on the short horizontal line, leaving a flat top above the white forehead.
- 8
Shorten the right ear
Fold the right ear point down to match the first ear.
- 9
Blunt the chin
Fold the bottom point up to shorten the jaw. Take every layer and leave a broad, flat chin.
- 10
Turn over
Turn the panda over. The smooth white face is in front, with the black ears standing up behind it.
